The purpose of the Monarchs baseball program is to develop young Christian men of character through the great game of baseball. We believe that baseball contains fundamental principles, which provide tools for success in life.
Our program will focus on teaching these baseball and life fundamentals.
The Monarchs carry the ‘independent’ history of Kansas City baseball; avoiding the “club team” stigma, with a rich heritage and over 10 years of excellence, seven league championships, and during the 2015 spring season notching 250 victories for the franchise.
The Monarchs are a Kansas City Independent / Charter League (KCIC) championship team and not a member of KSHSAA; as such, have the ability to recruit players and be an alternative high-school program for those who do not play for another high school program.
Coach Nelson was instrumental in starting the program in 2006 and has dedicated his live to the game of baseball, including time in the Minor Leagues with the Cincinnati Reds. In 2017, Shane Rushik took over leadership of the Monarchs Program, and continues to lead the program upholding the values this program was built on.
Coach Nelson’s life rules include:
1) Understand the game, respect the game.
2) Play every pitch, every game.
3) Don't just do your best - look to improve every day, every game...
4) Play "old-school."
5) Be your own man.
6) And most important - play for the Love of the game.
