During the summer of 2006, former Kansas City Monarch Buck O'Neil signed a short-term contract with the Northern League's Kansas City T-Bones. Before the Northern League's All-Star game, he was traded (?) to the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks. Listed as the starting shortstop in the game, he led off, reaching base on an intentional walk. After the top of the first, Buck was traded again, this time back to the T-Bones. He led off the bottom of the first as well, receiving another intentional walk.

Wearing a red-and-white Kansas City Monarchs jersey, O'Neil said he thought the last time he had swung a bat in a game was in 1955. "This is special, very special. I've been in baseball 70 years. This is how I made my living. And here I am at 94 with a bat in my hand."

Asked if he remembered who he was facing in that last at-bat, he replied: "I don't remember yesterday, and you ask me who the pitcher was in 1955?"

At the age of 94 years, 8 months, and 5 days, he because the second-oldest player to appear in a professional ball game. Who was the oldest? Credit that record to Ted Radcliffe; in 1999 he faced a single batter when 96 years old for the #1 spot.
